Each year, Mary, Joseph and their family traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover (Luke 2:41). Assuming they traveled along the most obvious route, they would have spent a good deal of time on the road connecting Jerusalem and Jericho. While there's plenty of water on this road, there's no water 40 miles to the north, and with the exception of hard-to-reach Ein Gedi, there's no water 140 miles to the south. This road is clearly dangerous. It is also a tough climb if you're going up to Jerusalem. Jericho is the lowest city on earth. Jerusalem is atop the Judean Mountain range. that's a climb of about 3,500 feet in 18 miles. Be sure to see our coaching video on Psalm 121 as a potential Mother's Day message.
