Flash flood route to sand

When Jesus taught on the parable of the wise and foolish builders, he warned his listeners not to build their houses on sand foundations (Luke 7:24-27). None of his listeners would have dared do such a thing. The only beds of sand to be found in Israel come at the base of the Judean Wilderness, where flash floods empty into the Dead Sea basin each winter. When the flash floods ebb away, sand is left behind. Only a fool would build a house on that bed of sand!
